Kementerian Luar Negeri Yordania menyatakan pemerintahnya akan mengadakan pertemuan Arab dan internasional mengenai situasi di Suriah di Aqaba pada Sabtu (14/12).
“Atas undangan Yordania, para menteri luar negeri Komite Menteri Arab untuk Suriah, yang dibentuk berdasarkan keputusan Liga Arab dan terdiri dari Yordania, Arab Saudi, Irak, Lebanon, Mesir, dan Sekretaris Jenderal Liga Arab, akan mengadakan pertemuan di Aqaba, yang juga akan dihadiri oleh para menteri luar negeri UEA, Bahrain, kepala KTT Arab saat ini, dan Qatar,” kata kementerian kepada kantor berita Yordania, PETRA.
Menurut kementerian itu, menteri-menteri Arab juga akan mengadakan pertemuan dengan Menlu Turki, Menlu AS, Perwakilan Tinggi Uni Eropa untuk Urusan Luar Negeri dan Kebijakan Keamanan, dan Utusan Khusus PBB untuk Suriah.
Oposisi bersenjata Suriah merebut ibu kota Suriah, Damaskus, pada 8 Desember.
Setelah itu, pejabat Rusia mengatakan bahwa Presiden Suriah Bashar Assad mengundurkan diri sebagai presiden setelah berunding dengan para pihak yang berkonflik dan meninggalkan Suriah menuju Rusia, tempat ia diberi suaka.
Pasca perebutan kekuasaan, Mohammed al-Bashir, yang menjalankan pemerintahan berbasis di Idlib yang dibentuk oleh Hayat Tahrir al-Sham dan kelompok oposisi lainnya, diangkat sebagai perdana menteri sementara pada 10 Desember.
