Menteri Kebudayaan Fadli Zon menyatakan peran kebudayaan adalah sebagai soft power dalam menghadapi persaingan global yang terjadi saat ini di dunia internasional.
“Indonesia kaya akan warisan budaya dan memiliki identitas budaya yang kuat. Jika dimanfaatkan dengan baik, kedua hal ini dapat menjadi peluang dan tanggung jawab besar dalam menghadapi persaingan global,” kata Fadli Zon dalam keterangannya, di Depok, Jumat.
Untuk itu peran kebudayaan Indonesia diatur dalam UUD 1945 Pasal 32 Ayat 1 yaitu negara memajukan kebudayaan nasional Indonesia di tengah peradaban dunia dengan menjamin kebebasan dan mengembangkan nilai budayanya.
Menurutnya, potensi soft power dapat dikembangkan melalui penerapan nilai-nilai luhur, seperti gotong royong, toleransi antarumat beragama, penghormatan terhadap alam dan lingkungan, serta pelestarian keragaman budaya.
Saat ini beberapa produk budaya Indonesia telah dikenal dunia, kata dia, antara lain wayang, keris, batik, kuliner Nusantara, film, dan musik.
Kementerian Kebudayaan juga memperkenalkan benda prasejarah Indonesia kepada dunia, seperti fosil Homo Erectus di Sangiran, lukisan purba di Gua Leang-Leang, dan alat-alat bantu purba di Flores sebagai upaya menguatkan soft power.
Ia berharap Kementerian Kebudayaan dan UI bersinergi dalam melestarikan kebudayaan Indonesia dan mengenalkannya ke mata dunia.
Menurutnya, perguruan tinggi dalam hal ini berperan penting sebagai pusat kajian humaniora dan kebudayaan yang dapat menjadi fondasi di tengah kompleksitas global.
Berbagai upaya dapat diterapkan melalui pendidikan berbasis budaya, kata dia, inovasi berbasis kebudayaan, ekonomi kreatif, serta diplomasi budaya di tingkat internasional.
Upaya UI untuk melestarikan budaya Indonesia diwujudkan dalam berbagai program kesenian yang diadakan di kampus.
